Rudolf Rieger is a Writer/Film Producer/Photographer who joined the film industry in 2004 after having been a successful Business Analyst for Swissair and Credit Suisse, a software developer, mentor and visual arts artist.
Parallel to going through the motions of location scouting and capturing actions on set behind the scenes he spent his time on researching Southern Africa’s culture on its indigenous and traditional history. In the process he developed and builds the foundation of some cultural and educational projects. As editor of "On Set Images News", an online newsletter, he signed responsible on publishing local Cape Film, Tourism and Community dynamics.
Rudolf, as a producer of documentaries, signs responsible under the umbrella of
On Set Images and
On Set Film Productions. However, his responsibility for project feasibility studies, research and development, including its basic fundraising, forms part of IPSOSA, the
Indigenous Peoples Society of South Africa a non-profit company founded in 2007 where he fills the position on the board of directors and as Chief Executive Officer.
His series, a 7-episode documentary,
THE KHOEKHOE SAGA, co-funded by the
National Lotteries Commission, was broadcasted by
SABC 2 during 2023. The documentary made his company, On Set Images, the winner of the Golden Horn at
SAFTAs 18, October 2024, for “Best Educational Programme”.
Rudolf attended numerous courses and Master Classes provided by the Cape Film Commission, the Writers Guild of South Africa and the Documentary Filmmaker Association amongst others Master Courses with TV veteran Tim O’Donnel and Hollywood Script Doctor Peter Russel. He too Studied Screenwriting at Daniel Derckson’s The Writing Studio.
Membership and Engagement
Rudolf further is member of the
Documentary Filmmakers Association,
Writers’ Guild of South Africa and has been General Secretary of the
Performing Arts Network of South Africa (2 years). He served Hout Bay, his hometown, as
Museum Trustee for 5 years, as a Rotarian for 15 years, for several years on the Advisory Board of
HBBOF (Hout Bay Business Opportunity Forum) a community-based NGO and the
National Sea Rescue as crew member during the eighties. Rudolf has been a Jury Member for the South African Film and Television Awards,
SAFTAs 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024.
As a passed active member of the Gorachouqua Council of the Khoe and Bushman Nation and on the council of the
Western Cape Integrated Indigenous and Traditional Leaders he signed responsible for Media Relations and Logistics.
