A film deal can look perfect on paper and still be the wrong deal.

Price, rights, territories and timing all matter. But there’s something much harder to put into a contract: trust.

The best deals leave both sides wanting to work together again.

So where do you draw the line? What makes you walk away from a film deal?

Related discussion: A film deal isn't just about the headline numbers. Sales agent commissions, expenses and contractual obligations can significantly affect what a producer actually receives.

For me, it’s when agreed terms suddenly start changing. Negotiation is normal, but if you keep having to renegotiate things you already agreed on, that’s usually a sign to walk away.
