Hi everyone. Just joined this site. I am an award-winning writer, repped by my agent in Los Angeles. I graduated from Brown University and received my MFA in writing from UCLA - Summa Cum Laude. I've had five features optioned -with 3 of them now being packaged. I've won many awards and been hired for a lot of indie writing/polishing jobs too. Plus, I have many years of experience as a professional script analyst/reader - first in development and now for one of the biggest talent/literary agencies in LA for almost 20 years (as well as a reader/judge for an exciting, new company/contest). Look forward to hearing from others and possibly working together. Best, Lawrence

Welcome to FilmPlatforms, Lawrence! Great to see you here! 😊

Your experience in screenwriting, development, and script analysis brings a valuable perspective to our community.

I'm particularly curious about something you've probably seen many times over the years: what makes a screenplay stand out when an agent or development executive is reviewing dozens of submissions?

I think your perspective on this could be incredibly useful to many writers here.

Looking forward to some great discussions and hopefully new collaborations!

So nice to join - thanks Zoltan! I think that the writer's voice and style are essential - and it's true that the first 20 pages (even the first 10 pages) are really vital toward capturing the reader/audience!

That's a great point, Lawrence. And I think there's an important distinction between grabbing someone's attention in the first ten pages and giving them a reason to stay invested in the story.

A strong opening can get a script noticed, but maintaining that distinctive voice and emotional connection throughout is where the real challenge begins.

Really appreciate you sharing your perspective!
