Personally, Cannes went surprisingly well for me this year, so I’m curious to see how Toronto compares.

I’ve never been to TIFF before, but since many people say it’s becoming one of the first major industry markets after Cannes, I’ll probably give it a try this year.

Hopefully it will be worth the trip and even more importantly, a chance to discover some new companies and people I haven’t met before.

This will actually be my first TIFF Market as well, so I’m really looking forward to it. 😊

Cannes went surprisingly well for me this year, so I’m hoping Toronto will be just as good, even if the atmosphere is probably very different.

We’ll be staying close to the CN Tower in downtown Toronto, and from what I’ve seen, the main TIFF Market locations are only a few minutes away, so the location should be perfect for meetings and networking.

The market feels especially interesting this year because the industry is becoming tougher for everyone, which probably makes real face-to-face connections even more important again.

Are you already planning meetings for TIFF, or mostly going to explore and network this year?

One thing I'm genuinely looking forward to is having everything much more centralized.

After Cannes and Berlin, where it often feels like you're constantly rushing between hotels, offices and meeting locations, TIFF seems refreshingly compact. From what I've seen, most of the industry activity is within walking distance, which means you spend more time talking to people and less time trying to get across the city.

I also like that it feels like a genuinely open market. At some other markets, especially in the US, it can be surprisingly difficult to even stop by and say hello to existing partners without an appointment. Sometimes there's already someone at reception asking whether you're expected before you even reach the office.

I'm hoping TIFF brings back a bit of that spontaneous side of the business running into people, grabbing a coffee, having an unplanned conversation that turns into a future collaboration. In my experience, those moments often end up being just as valuable as the meetings you scheduled weeks in advance.

One thing I've always wondered about TIFF is whether most buyers have already committed the majority of their acquisition budget after Cannes, or whether many intentionally leave room for Toronto and even AFM later in the year.
I've heard both arguments over the years, so I'd be interested to hear what people on the sales side are seeing today.
Has the acquisition strategy changed over the past few years, or does it still depend entirely on the company and the individual project?
