The story was inspired by the real-life tragedy of bassist Tom Evans from the band Badfinger. His death made me wonder what it would be like if someone who had lost a close friend had the opportunity to search for them in the afterlife. That question became the emotional foundation for Wish You Were Here. While the series explores a vast and imaginative version of Heaven, at its heart it's really about friendship, grief, redemption, and hope.

I picture the atmosphere as classic rock-inspired, emotional, and a little otherworldly rather than a traditional “heavenly” sound. Since Tomas is a musician, the music reflects both who he was on Earth and how he experiences the afterlife. I agree that the sonic identity could become an important part of how the series is presented.

As for filming locations, I’ve thought about the look and atmosphere of the series, but I’d prefer to explore the actual production location collaboratively with the producer. I’d definitely be open to considering countries or regions that could support the visual world of the story while also making sense financially through incentives and rebates.

Wish You Were Here: A Rock Fantasy follows Tomas Alvers, a troubled rock musician who is murdered and awakens in an afterlife that is nothing like he expected. Guided by the angel Gabriel, Tomas begins searching for his best friend and former bandmate, Paul, whose death has haunted him for years.

Along the way, Tomas encounters an eccentric cast of souls, including the mysterious Victoria, as he discovers that Heaven has its own rules, personalities, conflicts, and secrets.

The series blends fantasy, drama, humor, music, and mystery. Although the afterlife provides the setting, at its heart the story is about friendship, grief, redemption, and the relationships that continue to shape us even after death.

Audiences can expect Tomas’s search for Paul to take him deeper into this unusual world while raising a larger question: What if Heaven isn’t quite what we imagined?

I don’t want to give away too much, but by the end of the first season, Tomas’s search leads him to question some of his assumptions about both Paul and the afterlife itself.
