Discussion Backpack — Moroccan Action/Thriller Seeking Producers

My name is Hicham Angour, an independent screenwriter from Morocco. I am excited to share my completed feature screenplay, BACKPACK.

This project is a high-stakes Action / Thriller / Social Drama set entirely against the vibrant and cinematic backdrop of Marrakech. The story holds deep personal value to me, as it is heavily inspired by my real-life experiences and observations working as a gas station attendant.

Format: Feature Film (75 pages / Approx. 90 mins runtime)

Budget Approach: Low-Budget (Designed for high production value using real locations)

Language: Modern Standard Arabic & Moroccan Darija (English translation available via machine translation)

Logline: A simple Marrakech gas station attendant’s life is turned upside down when a brief, unexpected encounter with two foreign tourists involves a mysterious backpack, plunging him into a dangerous world of pursuit and survival.

Current Status: The screenplay is fully polished and ready for development. I am currently seeking Producers, Co-Production Partners, and Sales Agents who are interested in gripping, authentic international genre films.

Interesting premise, Hicham. Marrakech could give the film a very distinctive identity.

Since you’re looking for producers and potentially international partners, I’d be interested to know how you see BACKPACK positioned internationally. Do you have any comparable films in mind in terms of tone, audience or market?

I’m also curious about the language strategy. Since the story involves foreign tourists, do you see the film remaining primarily in Moroccan Darija/Arabic, or could parts of the story naturally be in English as well? That choice could potentially influence how the project is positioned internationally.

فكرة مثيرة للاهتمام يا هشام. بإمكان مراكش أن تمنح الفيلم هوية مميزة للغاية.

بما أنكم تبحثون عن منتجين وشركاء دوليين محتملين، أود أن أعرف كيف ترون مكانة فيلم "باك باك" على الصعيد الدولي. هل لديكم أفلام مشابهة في ذهنكم من حيث الأسلوب أو الجمهور أو السوق؟

أنا مهتم أيضاً باستراتيجية اللغة. بما أن القصة تدور حول سياح أجانب، هل تتوقع أن يبقى الفيلم باللغة المغربية/العربية بشكل أساسي، أم يمكن أن تتضمن أجزاء منه اللغة الإنجليزية أيضاً؟ قد يؤثر هذا الخيار على كيفية تسويق المشروع دولياً.

بالنسبة لي، تُعدّ الهوية المغربية للفيلم بالغة الأهمية. فمراكش ليست مجرد موقع في القصة، بل هي جزء لا يتجزأ من أجواء الفيلم وهويته. وفي الوقت نفسه، فإن القصة المحورية - رجل عادي تتغير حياته فجأة بعد لقاء غير متوقع - هي قصة عالمية قادرة على التواصل مع جماهير خارج المغرب.


من حيث الأسلوب، أرى فيلم "باكباك" فيلماً تشويقياً متماسكاً، يركز على الشخصيات، ويتضمن عناصر من الحركة والدراما الاجتماعية. أود أن يتمتع بتشويق وجاذبية أفلام التشويق العالمية، مع الحفاظ على أصالة الحياة المغربية ومدينة مراكش.


فيما يخص اللغة، أفضّل أن يتحدث المغاربة الدارجة المغربية بشكل أساسي، لأنني أعتقد أن هذا يضفي على الفيلم مزيدًا من الأصالة. يستطيع السياح الأجانب التحدث بالإنجليزية فيما بينهم بشكل طبيعي. وعندما يتفاعلون مع المغاربة، قد تتغير اللغة بشكل طبيعي تبعًا للموقف. ستتضمن النسخة الدولية ترجمةً إنجليزية.


أعتقد أن هذا قد يصبح في الواقع أحد نقاط قوة الفيلم: قصة مغربية ذات بعد دولي، بدلاً من محاولة جعل الفيلم إنجليزياً بالكامل لمجرد السوق الدولية.


في هذه المرحلة، أبحث عن منتج أو شركة إنتاج أو شريك إنتاج مشترك أو ممول يمكنه أن يرى الإمكانات الدولية للمشروع ويساعد في تحويل سيناريو فيلم BACKPACK المكتمل إلى إنتاج.
