Hi all,
I’m looking for gaffers and DPs who have experienced tricky color shifts under different light sources.
For my bachelor’s thesis at Stuttgart Media University, I’m collecting real-world examples, such as fabrics or materials showing unexpected colors on camera, differences between eye and camera, or other unusual artifacts.

I’d really appreciate it if you could share your experience in this short survey: survey

Thanks a lot,
Simon

Hi Simon,

Interesting topic this is something most of us run into sooner or later.
One example from my side: certain synthetic fabrics (especially deep blues and blacks) tend to shift quite noticeably under different LED sources, often picking up a green or magenta tint on camera that isn’t visible to the eye.
Another common case is cheaper LED panels vs higher-end fixtures. It may look fine to the eye, but on camera skin tones start to break, especially in shadows or mixed lighting conditions.
I’ve also seen issues with reflective surfaces (car paint, glossy materials), where color consistency changes under different LED spectrums.

Great topic, and hopefully many people will contribute.
