🎬 What Are You Working On? Share Your Project with the FilmPlatforms Community

A big thank you to everyone who has joined FilmPlatforms and put their trust in this growing community.

FilmPlatforms was created to be more than just another place to post. The goal is to build a community where filmmakers and industry professionals can share what they’re working on, exchange real experiences, make meaningful connections, and help each other move projects forward.

We also want to help your work get seen. Whenever possible, interesting projects and posts shared by our members may be featured across FilmPlatforms’ LinkedIn, Facebook, X, and Instagram channels, as well as within our wider film industry network at no cost to our members.

I created this community because I believe the right connection, piece of advice, or extra visibility can sometimes make a real difference to a project. Wherever I can, I’d like FilmPlatforms to help create those opportunities.

So let’s start with one simple question:

What are you working on right now?

Tell us a little about your current film, screenplay, documentary, series, or any other project you’re developing.

You can share it here in the comments, or start a separate thread in the appropriate FilmPlatforms forum. If you create your own thread, feel free to share it here too so other members can discover your project and join the conversation.

I’ll start. Alongside growing FilmPlatforms, I work in international film and television licensing, rights management and distribution-related business, working with distributors and other film industry partners worldwide.

With FilmPlatforms, I’m focused on building a community where filmmakers and industry professionals can make useful connections, share their projects and experiences, and hopefully create new opportunities for each other.

I know some of you have already shared your projects and joined conversations here, and I really appreciate that thank you for helping make this community more active and valuable.

Looking forward to hearing what everyone else is working on!

Hi, I’m an indie music composer currently working on the soundtrack for an independent animated film from Portugal. Interestingly, I don’t speak Portuguese or understand the language.

The work includes the complete soundtrack as well as the end-credit song.
More information about the project and credits can be found here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt30494401/fullcredits/

Thanks, Barry! Great to see STEVEN here as well. Hopefully the right producer or connection comes along, whether through the FilmPlatforms community or beyond. We’ll also do what we can to give interesting projects some extra visibility through our social channels and network. Wishing you all the best with the next stage of packaging!

Thanks for sharing, Subin! Scoring an animated film without speaking the language sounds like an interesting creative challenge. I’d be curious to hear how you approach that. Hopefully the project opens some new doors for you, and we’ll do what we can to help give your work some extra visibility as well!

Thanks! The director was kind enough to explain the story to me in English and also sent me a translated version of the script. He walked me through each scene that required music and explained the emotions that needed to be reflected.

The score was a mix of orchestral and hybrid music. Since the story takes place in a frog world, I created some custom “froggy” synth presets for one or two tracks to give them a frog-like character.

I composed every melody and harmony using a single piano first, and then transferred those notes to different instruments during the orchestration process. It was a really fun creative challenge and a unique experience!

That’s a really interesting approach, especially creating custom “froggy” synth sounds specifically for the world of the film. Starting with the melodies and harmonies on piano first also makes a lot of sense.

Do you find that animation gives you more freedom to experiment musically than live-action projects?

Well, the director gave me complete creative freedom.

It really depends on the director we’re working with. Sometimes, we have to work within certain constraints like no flute sounds, no mallets, no strings, etc. So, as a composer, you have to adapt your approach to fit the director’s vision and the requirements of the project.

That’s interesting. When a director gives you complete creative freedom, do you usually prefer to compose from your own interpretation of the story first, or do you still ask for references or temp tracks to understand the direction they have in mind?

Actually, I have my own little trick. I don't know what established composers do, but when I have complete creative freedom, I imagine myself as a bystander an uninvolved character in the story or scene. I just watch what's happening and listen.
Then I listen for the sounds and tunes I hear in my head and try to reproduce them as closely as possible with my synths and other instruments. I actually do the same thing in real life, too. Whenever something creative happens, I automatically start humming a melody in my head.

For example, a few months ago, I found a kitten hiding under a roadside shed. It was trying to hide from me, so I tried looking at it from the other side. It then moved to the other side to hide from me again. Up to this point, I had no intention of creating something with it Then, I started hearing a melody in my head. Then the kitten started to panic and tried to run away, so I followed it. At that point, the kitten probably thought, "Okay, this guy is dangerous, and I need to fight for my life." It stood in a defensive position, hissing at me and getting ready to fight. I just walked back, and the kitten eventually went back to its original spot and tried to hide from me again.

I went home and tried to replicate the tune as closely as I could. That eventually turned into the composition below.

The frustrating part is that I lost so many details of the melody while walking back home. By the time I got to my synths, I could only remember fragments of what I had heard.

Hello! My name is Rogério Perdiz, and I'm an independent action animation filmmaker.
I grew up watching Action Hero movies, and I've always loved 3D CGI animation and video games. My goal is to tell good, memorable action stories through animation.

I'm not particularly good at making money... we could definitely use an executive producer! 😁 For that reason, our projects tend to take a long time to complete .... many years.

The main project I'm producing and directing at the moment is Clash On Little Pond, the one Subin mentioned above. He was also the one who introduced me to this community, so thank you!
COLP is currently about 72% complete. I'm working on the animatic and planning the shots at this exact moment, but pretty much everything else is already complete, apart from the final character rigging and animation. The final song is currently in the extremely competent hands of Subin.

We also have two more projects in development: Resilience Satelle and The Gate Sheriff (still very early in development), each at a different stage. Our first delivery will be Clash On Little Pond.

I'll be keeping an eye on this community from now on. Thanks for giving me the chance to share our adventures!
